The Chemistry of Cu <sub>3</sub> N and Cu <sub>3</sub> PdN Nanocrystals**

The precursor conversion chemistry and surface of Cu3N Cu3PdN nanocrystals are unknown or contested. Here, we first obtain phase-pure, colloidally stable nanocubes. Second, elucidate the pathway by which copper(II) nitrate oleylamine form Cu3N. We find that is both a reductant nitrogen source. Oleylamine oxidized to primary aldimine, reacts further with excess secondary eliminating ammonia. Ammonia CuI Third, investigated mixed ligand shell aliphatic amines carboxylates (formed in situ). While appear tightly bound, easily desorbed from surface. Finally, show doping palladium decreases band gap material becomes semi-metallic. These results bring insight into metal nitrides might help development other nitride nanocrystals.
